ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN: Iran has described Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to Tehran as highly positive, saying important diplomatic gains were achieved and the results of the visit are expected to begin emerging soon.
According to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir held meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior officials, during which the Iran-US conflict, efforts to reduce tensions, measures for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and mechanisms for resolving regional disputes through dialogue were discussed.
The Iranian leadership also appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni said that meetings between senior Pakistani and Iranian officials were held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also described the talks with Iran as a significant development, expressing hope that they would help pave the way for lasting peace.
Naqvi said his meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir and President Pezeshkian was highly positive and productive. The discussions focused extensively on the Iran-US conflict and the broader situation in the Middle East.
The talks also covered measures for restoring the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, with officials discussing steps that could contribute to a comprehensive resolution of the conflict.
Iran’s positive assessment of the visit comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Pakistan continuing to emphasize dialogue, de-escalation and diplomatic engagement as the preferred means of resolving regional disputes.
